Baby Shower #1

First off, I just want to say thank you so much to my cousins, Denise, Diane and Megan for putting together a great family filled baby shower!

My first shower was in Bright, IN where my mom’s family is from. My grandma, aunts and cousin where there (minus a few). There was some delicious food and I took home some really fun decorated oneies for Sophie!

My three favorite things about this shower:

1.Four layer, different shades of Pink Cake

The cake was super cool! I don’t get too excited about cake, but this one, defiantly got the excitement going.

2.All the purple & pink decorations and the Lia Sophia Jewelry

When I said I wanted my shower girly, this is defiantly what I meant! And what a great touch for the tables, a little goodie bag with jewelry in it – now that’s girly!

3.The Team Edward onesie that my Cousin Anna made!

This was a great shower idea. Every one picked out an image that they could either color or just iron on a onesie. Then I got to pick my favorite one. There were A LOT of super cute onesie to choose from, but my heart couldn’t choose anything other than the Team Edward. (Yes, I do plan on reading Twilight to little Sophie on nights she doesn’t want to sleep – and because she is my daughter, she will love it and be team Edward too!)

Wow Moment

This will be short...

I was catching up on my baby website reading and just read the below article. As I read it, I had one of those "Wow Moments" when I just can't quiet believe that this is actually happening.

I had to share:

"Just before the eighth week of gestation, an embryo develops its first sensitivity to touch. The first parts of its body to experience sensitivity are the ones that are the most sensitive in adults. It starts in the cheek and then quickly extends to the genital area (10 weeks), palms (11 weeks), and soles of the feet (12 weeks). By 17 weeks, the abdomen and buttocks are also sensitive. Your baby may experiment with this new found sense of touch by stroking his or her face or sucking on a thumb, as well as feeling other body parts and seeing how they move."*

Wow! I know that at some point all this stuff has to happen to Baby Helms, but I just never actually thought about this stuff actually happening! I mean, to think that Baby Helms is gonna suck his/her thumb while still in the womb....that's soooo cute!

Baby Pool

Well I didn't get very creative when it came to creating a baby pool, but I thought it would be fun to let every one have a chance to take a guess. I found a website that created a baby pool - so that's what we will use.

So head on over to Robert and Lauren's Baby Pool: http://bebepool.com/leh8110

Also, if you haven't noticed, there is a Gender Poll to your left!

Week 10

As of today, I am now 10 weeks and 4 days in to my pregnancy. Yay! Right!? I’m still very tired but my appetite is starting to come back. I just wish my desire for cooking would return too!

So by this time, Baby Helms is about an Inch and a half long and the size of a prune! His/her legs are forming knees and ankles and it’s tiny arms now have little elbows that can bend. He/she is growing little baby teeth buds under the gums that will grow into place when Baby Helms is around 6 months old. His/her stomach and kidney are now working and even producing digestive juices and urine.

Oh and next week I will start taking belly bump photos!

Photo Shoot (The first of many)

Please meet our little Baby Helms! His/her first photo shoot was taken Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 8:50 a.m. Defiantly takes after his/her father; moving around a lot. We had a total of 3 pictures taken all within a minute of each other, and in each shot he/she was in a different position.

I’m happy to say that Baby Helms had a strong, healthy heartbeat of 179. And had 2 arms, 2 legs and one big head (again, takes after daddy). I just hope he/she will have some of my features and traits. Can’t be all crazy daddy!

Baby Helms will have his/her 2nd photo shoot in about 10 weeks. Then we will be able to give him/her a proper name since we will find out its gender.

Our Bun has been baking for 9 weeks now…

When I started this blog, my plans had been to update regularly on my (our) journey through my 1st pregnancy. But what I didn’t realize (which I guess part of the process) is that pregnancy is very time consuming. You’ll understand what I mean in a minute, but fist I want to apologize for keeping every one hanging for so long. After a loving harassment from a loved family member, I’m forcing myself to stay awake and write…

Pregnancy Fatigue
After 9 weeks of pregnancy, I never be so tired in my life. Trust me; I know what it is like to be tired. I was one of those oh-so lucky college students to experience mono. Woo-who! The exhaustion that a women experience while in her first trimester is almost unbearable. It hits at any time and when it hits, it hits with force. When I get home every night I head straight for the couch. That is where I lay until 9 p.m. (which is my new bed time).

If you can wrap your head around this, and don’t worry, it took me a while to fully comprehend myself, the reason why I am so exhausted, is due to the fact that I am creating another person.

(Synonyms for Creating: forming, building, crafting, constructing.)

At week 5, all major organs were forming. Almost two weeks ago, my baby’s arms and legs literally “sprouted”. His/her kidneys are almost ready to start working. This week, his/her eye lids are forming – Eye Lids! Crazy huh?

Morning Sickness/Appetite
I have been fortunate enough to not have hardly any morning sickness. I do have a bone to pick with my appetite however, where the heck are you these days?! I miss food – I love food – Oh please come back soon. I eat when I can. I force food down, I have to – there’s an olive size baby in me.

Food cravings:

Popcorn – I have never experienced movie theater popcorn before now and it is AMAZING.

Fruit – It’s my most powerful craving by far.

OJ – I have to have this every day. Not to mention I always have a Clementine in my purse (ok, sometimes 2)

Cereal – I wouldn’t say I crave it – it’s just part of who I am.

Ice cream – I have limited myself with this one. I have to. I could eat ice cream every day.

The worst soreness ever…
“The Girls” is what I will refer to them as, well The Girls; they’re experiencing a soreness that could have never been imagined before pregnancy. A new policy has been put in place, which is a very hard policy for you-know-who, “You can look, but you can’t touch”. If you have never been pregnant before, you will understand, I promise.

So far, after 9 weeks, lets’ get this show on the road folks! I ready for the baby bump, the nesting stage, the baby shopping, the baby proofing, the ENERGY! Bring it on…I’m ready for the “fun part”!!
